HERBERT MATTER/KENYA HARA

Accordion Book Design for Two Designers’ Timeline
Instructor: Doug Scott
2024
This project involves creating an accordion book dedicated to Swiss designer Herbert Matter (as assigned by Doug) and Japanese designer Kenya Hara. Beginning with their birth years, the book chronicles their works and milestones, interwined with significant global events in art, design, and culture relevant to their time.

In terms of design, I adopted the Swiss grid-based International Typographic Style to reflect Matter’s influence, while incorporating red as a nod to Kenya Hara’s Japanese identity and his role as art director for MUJI. A color-coded system was implemented: red bars represent Matter, red backgrounds with white stripes signify Kenya Hara, and black is used for other related events.

The physical copy of the book with higher quality images is in progress. Prof.Doug currently has it and will return it next semester.:)
